I filed a change of address form about a week after i moved. How do i get the mail that was mailed to my old address, prior to the change of address? will the post office get it automatically, or can i make a request or what?If you file a change of address with the post office, will they take the mail out of your old mail box?
The first thing you should have done when you knew you were moving was to file a change of address. So, the mail that went to your old address could be forwarded to you by the new occupants of the address you left. If no one is at your old address to take care of your old mail, then you might be able to go pick up your old mail, the mail person can not do that for you, not part of their responsibility.If you file a change of address with the post office, will they take the mail out of your old mail box?

The only way you can get your old mail is if the new tenants

sent the mail back and it was first class, or if you go to the

old residence and ask the new tenants if any of your mail has

came, and then ask them if they will hold on to any that may

arrive , or put the new address onto each one, and return it.



Whenever you move you should file a change of address

immediately, even way before you move, as it takes a few

weeks sometimes, before it is established that you have

a new address.You can see why with all the mail that goes

out each day, so you have to expect the delay automatically.



If the mail you are waiting to receive was first class, and only

first class, you might be able to retrieve it if it was returned.
